Sexual Paradox is a founding principle of nature. The key to human culture and the flowering of intelligence is the "Mating Mind". Woman and man have complementary, and yet very different, skewed reproductive investments and life strategies. From this dissonance has a arisen a Red Queen race, each sex running while standing still, in an evolutionary Prisoners' Dilemma game with the other in which courtship, love and sexuality have been the gateways through which the flowering of culture and super-intelligence has come about, because it is through these gateways that the next living generation comes into existence. The flowering of complexity and diversity we call the cultural explosion did not, and could not have come about, if one sex strategically dominated the other in terms of reproductive strategy. Rather they arise from the chaotic sensitivity of the unstable equilibrium, where each sex has to run while standing still, to entice the opposite sex to reproduce with them, while in the same motion, facing an ever more discerning 'adversary' in the arts of love and fidelity. The flowering of culture thus comes about through the artistry, skill, intelligence, sensitivity and strategic accomplishment of the suitor in love in the 'romantic quest' the Red Queen race brings about.
While the strategies are complimentary, they are strongly skewed, with the females having a massive unequal reproductive parenting commitment, in pregnancy, lactation and early child rearing, while the males have a greater investment in fertilizing as many women as possible, while at the same time having to use their genius, resourcefulness and passion, as a true indicator of genetic fitness, to persuade any woman at all to bear their genes, since they cannot get pregnant themselves. The women are thus more choosy in selecting partners and need to be able to be discerning about which men they have sex with.
This gives rise to reproductive strategies which are polarized and divergent, although the roles are also highly complementary. There is thus a temptation for one sex to defect against the other and to try to assert reproductive dominance. Many religions and religious texts appear to be an attempt by males to gain control of culture and assert reproductive dominion over women by a variety of coercive and oppressive methods. These are contrary to nature and the evolutionary process. Although there are strong mutual and complementary forces in human sexual partnership, and male choice of female partners is a strong selective force, female reproductive choice is paramount in the sexual symmetry-breaking. Astute female reproductive choice is the most powerful evolutionary dynamic in the flowering of human culture and super-intelligence and is key to human futures.
The theme of symmetry-broken complementarity in Sexual Paradox goes deeper and gives expression to an intrinsic paradoxical complementarity that runs from the Tantra and Tao of body and mind, through the act of love and the varieties of sexuality interveaving all forms of life, down to the wave-particle complementarity and symmetry-breaking of fundamental forces of the cosmological universe.

Sexualparadox.org is a cooperative partnership venture in research on the implications of sexual complementarity in human emergence, culture and futures. It began with the book and has since become a research website whose chapters regularly have breaking news and research items added at the end of each chapter. This enables keeping a dynamic pace with emerging research, in the several fields impinging on the idea of strategic paradox, as a stimulator of intelligent society. It now has several resources, including the research web site, a yahoogroups news list and archive, an RSS feed, and an emerging wiki resource.
